Personal Portraiture encompasses a wide range of individual portrait styles. What they have in common is that they are appropriate for giving as a very special and personal gift within a marriage or romantic relationship, or are made as a private and personal portrait expression. Clients who make personal portraits are involved in strong, healthy, committed and romantically involved relationships. And that romance is something they value and seek to affirm, nourish and cultivate. Personal Portraiture clients also have a positive and healthy image of themselves personally and as an attractive and desirable romantic partner in relation to their spouse or relationship partner. Don Douglas Photography makes your custom maternity and personal portrait images on medium format professional portrait film. No portrait images are made digitally. While this means higher operating costs for the studio in making your images, it allows us to bring to your portrait work the superior image quality, color rendition and the permanance of film-based imaging. We will not compromise quality standards on your portraits with digital imaging. There is a style that is right for everyone: from the extremely modest to the intimately revealing. Personal Portraiture styles include: Maternity Portraiture - Some women choose to create maternity portraits in the month or so prior to delivery. These are generally made as nude or semi-nude expressions, celebrating a shortly expectant woman's round, maternal beauty. Other maternity portraits are made after birthing and usually involve mother and infant nursing or in other bonding poses expressive of their relationship.
Fine Art Portraiture - Fine art portraits usually involve tastefully posed nude images, exposed and enlarged as black & white 'form studies.' They are usually made unfiltered but can include a variety of abstract photographic, lighting and enlarging techniques to produce strikingly original and individual images.
Glamour Portraiture - Glamour portraits are color, head and shoulders to half-length portraits usually made in comfortable outerwear, or in modest lingerie or sleepwear. They are created with a soft-focus filter, and are designed to be demure, 'PG-rated', impeccably tasteful, modest and romantic portraits.
Boudoir Portraiture - Boudoir portraits are usually color portraits and can include from head and shoulders to half-length to full-length work. They can be made in outerwear, lingerie, leatherwear or include topless or tastefully posed nude images. While romantic, tasteful and soft-focus, boudoir portraits could be described as being a bit less modest, 'R-rated', and more revealing and frank than glamour portraits.
Form & Fitness Portraiture - Form and fitness portraits can be made in either color or black & white. Usually they are half-length to full-length portraits and typically the subject will wear brief exercise wear or swimwear, although many clients choose to make form and fitness portraits as nude or semi-nude expressions. Like fine art portraits they usually have a 'form study' approach, but emphasize fitness, strength and muscle tone, and are designed with the individual in mind who is serious about health, fitness and attractiveness of form.
Couple Portraiture - Couple portraits can be made in either color or black & white. They can have the modest look of the glamour portrait, the more revealing approach of the boudoir portrait or the arty look of the fine art or form and fitness styles. Couple portraits are made with both individuals involved in a relationship as subjects.
These are the principal styles that comprise Personal Portraiture. Many clients choose to make portraits involving more than one of these styles, or photograph more conventional portraits for business or family use at the same time. Often clients will have specific images in mind from fashion, women's or adult publications, or have original ideas that they would like to incorporate in their portrait images. These ideas are welcome and encouraged. So the images you choose to produce can be as individual as you are, and as unique as the relationship you are celebrating. |
